A teenager has been praised for constantly taking DoorDash deliveries mistakenly sent to his house.

The 18-year-old took to Reddit's Today I F****d forum, under username u/CwispyChickenTime, after he was finally rumbled.

The teen, who confirmed he lives in the U.S., explained he and his family had been enjoying a stream of free takeouts, after finding "random Doordash orders on our porch."

DoorDash is among the most popular food-delivery apps in the U.S., with 25 million users worldwide, mostly Americans.

Website BusinessofApps noted: "DoorDash has established itself as the leader in the US market, surpassing incumbent Grubhub and global leader Uber Eats.

"In 2020, DoorDash was responsible for 45 percent of all food delivery orders, holding a double digit advantage over everyone else."

Last year the company went public on the New York Stock Exchange, at a $72 billion valuation. That same year DoorDash's revenue increased by 69% to $4.88 billion, the website claimed.

The chart below, provided by Statista, shows DoorDash's growth.

Without specifying how long the mix-up had lasted, the teenager confirmed he and his family moved into the house around a year ago, saying: "The first time it happened I assumed it was a mistake, and after no one claiming it for 2 hours, we just decided to take it.

"Then randomly every month, another would appear. After the second meal we called DoorDash, they told us it was most likely a glitch and not to worry about it, ever since we've just taken the orders as a stroke of luck, until today."

Explaining more about missing orders, DoorDash's website says: "While we strive to get both your order and delivery perfect every time, sometimes mistakes happen...

"We take reports of undelivered orders very seriously. We investigate every order that is reported as not arriving to find the cause and ensure this doesn't happen again in the future."

I tell her sorry, and that we thought that the orders were random."

Teen

Fast forward to the present day and the teen saw a DoorDash driver drop off some food, and as usual, he and his brother tucked in to the burger and fries.

But this time, the customer who placed the order seemingly finally figured out where all their food had been going and knocked on the door.

"Of course we panic and throw everything back in, and I see a short, about 25 year old guy, he's nice and says that their house number is the same as ours, and that our addresses get mixed up, saying how he even brings us our packages," the teen explained.

Both parties apologized and they signed off with a friendly "enjoy your night." But their neighbor soon realized part of the order was missing, and a woman returned looking for the missing burger and fries.

"Visually upset, she asks about the burger and fries that were inside the bag, my mom shouts a no as she walks upstairs, and my brother shrugs it off.

"I step outside with her and apologize saying that he ate it and that they didn't want to fess up, I asked if she would want us to pay her back and she tells me no.

"She then points to her house and tell me we get her orders. I tell her sorry, and that we thought that the orders were random, she then says I don't believe you in an angry tone and walks off," he said.

He admitted he felt bad, and asked the internet if there was anything he could do to rectify the situation.

Amid the suggestions, numerous Redditors assured him it wasn't at fault for eating the food that kept turning up.

The post, which can be read here, amassed more than 6,800 comments and upvotes since being shared on Wednesday.

While Cyynric's comment racked up 6,000 upvotes alone, and said: "Once it's delivered to a wrong address, the driver is not supposed to take it back. DoorDash would have to issue a refund. You're good, don't worry about it. My wife did DoorDash for a few weeks in between jobs (she made bank on it), and they're actually quite strict on what the drivers can do, so as not to compromise the food in anyway."

Jpl77 thought: "This isn't OPs fault.. This is the issue of the person ordering the food. They are inconsiderate for not having a correct delivery address."

Crazydarkside4 pointed out: "If they took it back it could have been contaminated, or gone below the 'safe' temperature for bacteria."

ArchmagePhilB commented: "As a DoorDash driver, this happens a lot. That person needs to include a note on their order with more information on THEIR house to avoid this sort of thing happening. It makes all the difference."

And Spiffchili added: "Seems like you'd stop ordering DoorDash if your orders never turned up. I'm assuming they were refunded, if they reported it, so OP doesn't technically owe them anything."

In an edit, the teen confirmed he might get the neighbors a gift card as a gesture of goodwill if the problem escalates, adding the receipt never had a name or address.

When approached by Newsweek, DoorDash said it wasn't able to comment on this specific case.
