Sheldon Souray was initially a member of the Fort Saskatchewan Traders in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Later, the New Jersey Devils drafted him in the third round, 71st overall in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.

Additionally, he scored his first NHL goal on December 16, 1997, in a game against New York Rangers. He did not play a single game in the 2002–03 season. However, he had a breakthrough 2003–04 season and he successfully amassed 15 goals and 35 points.

He also signed a three-year, $11 million contract with the Anaheim Ducks on July 1, 2012. He eventually announced his retirement on June 30, 2015.

Souray won the Hardest Shot at the NHL All-Star Skills Competition in 2004 and Hardest Shot at the Edmonton Oilers Skills Competition in 2009.
