One person was killed in a Knox County crash Friday afternoon, according to a news release from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
A red 1994 Pontiac and a white 2004 Chevrolet truck were involved in the crash shortly before 2:15 p.m. on Knox Highway 4 and Knox Highway 15, the release says.
The release says a 41-year-old man from Toulon, Ill., was driving the Pontiac. He was transported with life-threatening injuries by OSF Life Flight to an area hospital. His passenger, a 38-year-old woman from Toulon, was deceased.
A 24-year-old woman from Toulon, Ill., who was driving the truck, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Her passenger, a 28-year-old man from Toulon, refused medical treatment, and a 2-year-old passenger was transported to a hospital by family.
Preliminary information indicates the Pontiac was headed north on Knox Highway 15 when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. The truck was traveling west on Knox Highway 4 when it struck the passenger side of the car. This caused both vehicles to go off the roadway to the north.
Names were not being released Friday pending notification of families, the release says.
The driver of the car was cited for disobeying a stop sign, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and driving with a suspended driver’s license.
No further information was available late Friday.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash. Assisting at the scene were GHAS, AOW First Responders, OSF Life Flight, Knox County Corner, Stark County Ambulance Service, and Galesburg Police.
