Ringling College of Art and Design's Motion Design program was ranked number one in the world by The Rookies for their 2023 Global School Rankings, highlighting the very best colleges in art and design. The Motion Design department has had a lot to celebrate lately—students from the program have been awarded the Rookie of the Year Award for three out of four consecutive years, and they have occupied top-ranking positions for the Rookies' Best of Motion Graphics rankings almost every year. Ringling's team took home first place in the 21st Annual 24 Hours Animation Contest in October. The five students competed against 431 teams from 104 schools to create a 30-second animated short in under 24 hours.

The cross-disciplinary Motion Design major was created from the convergence of animation, graphic design, advertising, and filmmaking. Students learn how to craft powerful animated visual communications for any type of screen, integrating various image-making technologies and media including 2D and 3D animation, visual effects (VFX), stop-motion, graphic design, concept development, videography, and sound design.

Alumni from the program have kickstarted their careers in companies that include Google, Apple, Ford, Disney, ESPN, JibJab, SnapChat, ABC, Digital Domain, Marvel, Imaginary Forces, and Nickelodeon. Recent grads have gone on to win three Emmys, a Grand Prize in the Adobe Design Achievement Awards, five National ADDY Awards, and The Motion Award from Motionographer.

Ringling's Computer Animation program is another world-renowned program. It ranked number one in the U.S. for Production Excellence by The Rookies this year. A student majoring in Computer Animation won Film of the Year from The Rookies, and the program boasts 17 Student Academy Awards. A recent alum from the program won an EMMY, and four others received Women in Animation awards. Alumni have worked on an extensive and impressive list of recent animated films including Coco, Encanto, Into the Spider-Verse, Lightyear, Luca, Moana, Onward, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Soul, Zootopia, and many more.

In Ringling's Game Art major, students study the basics of game design-mechanics and interactivity—and design their own worlds. The program prioritizes helping students produce highly competitive portfolios that reflect their incredible skills—and their diverse perspectives and identities. Invaluable resources like critiques from industry giants really prepare students to walk out of the classroom and into their dream job. Some of the top employers for the major are Blizzard Entertainment, Bluepoint Games, Disney Interactive Studios, Electronic Arts, Epic Games, Hasbro, LucasArts, Naughty Dog, and Riot Games, among others.

Adding to the exciting list of career opportunities that welcome Ringling graduates, one of the College's newest majors, Virtual Reality Development, has been expanding the variety of industries available to them. Students from the pioneering major are designing immersive experiences that create new possibilities for healthcare, architecture, education, media, and automobile manufacturing. Our students have produced work for General Motors, Moffitt Cancer Center, and Mote Marine Laboratories, in addition to the art, gaming, and entertainment career opportunities that regularly recruit from the College.

Ringling College prepares students to compete in the workforce with every tool available, from the incredible faculty of industry professionals with impressive resumes to industry-standard software and equipment. Motion Design at Ringling College is recognized as a Houdini Certified School and students work with Cinema 4D, Nuke, Adobe After Effects, and Dragon Frame. The Computer Animation department is stocked with a render farm with thousands of cores and is capable of rendering a complete feature film right on campus. Game Art students are working with the latest NVIDIA graphics hardware. And, students from every major have access to Ringling College's Studio Labs, a 36,000-square-foot commercial and academic film and post-production facility.
