Actor Andre Braugher best known for his work on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, has died at the age of 61.

On December 12, 2023, news broke that Andre sadly passed away — let’s take a look into the life and death of the award-winning actor.

The star, known for playing Captain Raymon Holt, died after battling a short illness.

Zahara

Pop singer Zahara died at the age of 35 after suffering with liver problems from years of alcohol abuse.

The self-taught Afro-pop artist, who featured on the BBC’s 100 Women list, died at a hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 11, 2023.

Zahara, whose real name is Bulelwa Mkutukana, first found fame in 2011 with album Loliwe – with it winning album of the year at the South African Music awards.

She even performed one of the album’s songs for Nelson Mandela in 2013 before his death.

Anna Cardwell

Honey Boo Boo star Mama June’s daughter Anna Cardwell died after a battle with stage four cancer at the age of 29.

Anna was diagnosed with adrenal carcinoma in May and was undergoing chemotherapy.

On December 9, 2023 June revealed the heartbreaking news that Anna had lost her cancer battle.

Ryan O’Neal

Iconic actor Ryan O’Neal died at the age of 82.

The Love Story and Peyton Place actor’s son, Patrick O’Neal, announced the sad news on December 8, 2023

“So this is the toughest thing I’ve ever had to say but here we go. My dad passed away peacefully today, with his loving team by his side supporting him and loving him as he would us,” Patrick posted to Instagram.

“My father Ryan O’Neal has always been my hero. I looked up to him and he was always bigger than life,” Patrick wrote.

Ryan was an Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee who was famously known for having an on-and-off relationship with actress Farrah Fawcett.

Benjamin Zephaniah 

Poet and Peaky Blinders star Benjamin Zephaniah died aged 65.

His family said that he died on December 7, 2023, after an eight-week battle with brain cancer.

A much-loved poet, Zephaniah also played the street preacher Jeremiah Jesus in six series of Peaky Blinders between 2013 and 2022.

It read: “It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the death of our beloved husband son and brother in the early hours of this morning.

“Benjamin was diagnosed with a brain tumour eight weeks ago.

Shane MacGowan

The Pogues singer Shane MacGowan died aged 65 on November 30.

The legendary Fairytale of New York star had been diagnosed with viral encephalitis – a serious condition which leads to brain swelling – prior to his passing.

He suffered a long health battle in his final years and had been in a wheelchair since 2015 following a fall that saw him break his pelvis.

Shane’s wife Victoria Mary Clarke shared a heartbreaking statement announcing the death of the star, who she called “the love of my life”.

Alistair Darling

Former Chancellor and Labour MP Alistair Darling died on November 30 aged 70.

He passed away after a battle with cancer, his family confirmed.

Darling was best known for leading the Better Together campaign ahead of the Scottish Independence vote in 2014, and overseeing the Treasury during the financial crisis under PM Gordon Brown between 2007 and 2010.

Dean Sullivan

Brookside legend Dean Sullivan died aged 68 on November 29.

The actor was best known for play Jimmy Corkhill in the popular soap between 1986 and 2003.

He passed away aged peacefully in his sleep following a short illness.

Frances Sternhagen

Sex and the City actress Frances Sternhagen died at the age of 93 on November 27.

The two-time Tony Award-winning actress boasted roles in Cheers, On Golden Pond, and The Heiress, but was perhaps best known for playing Bunny MacDougal, Charlotte’s mother-in-law, on Sex and the City.

Frances died of natural causes and a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter said: “We continue to be inspired by her love and life.”

Jean Knight

The singer behind ’70s hits like Mr. Big Stuff and Think It Over, Jean Knight, died on November 22.

Knight passed away at the age of 80 in New Orleans, Louisiana, as was confirmed by the agency that represented her.

Many fans paid tribute to the musician on social media following the sad news.

Terry Venables

Football legend Terry Venables died at the age of 80 after a long illness.

Venables’ family confirmed the sad news on November 25 as they paid tribute to the Three Lions manager.

His family said: “We are totally devastated by the loss of a wonderful husband and father who passed away peacefully yesterday after a long illness.”

Venables played for ChelseaSpurs and QPR in the 1960s and 70s, and won two Three Lions caps at international level in 1964, but he also enjoyed huge success as a manager and led England to the semi-finals in the 1996 European Championships.

Russell Norman

BBC star, chef and award-winning restaurant owner Russell Norman passed away aged 57 on November 23.

He died in hospital surrounded by his family and friends after a short health battle.

According to a close friend, Russell’s wife Jules and three children were at his bedside at the time.

Annabel Giles

TV presenter and actress Annabel Giles died on November 20, 2023, aged 64.

The for I’m A Celebrity contestant had been diagnosed with a brain tumour just four months before her death.

Giles, who got her big break in ITV shows Razzmatazz and Night Network, was best known as co-presenter of Posh Frocks and New Trousers with Sarah Greene.

Matthew Perry

Beloved Friends actor Matthew Perry died on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54.

He was sadly found dead in a hot tub in the back garden of Los Angeles home.

Millions of fans of the Chandler Bing star have paid tribute to him following the news of his passing.

DJ Casper

Cha Cha Slide creator DJ Casper died at the age of 58 on August 7.

The iconic songwriter – real name Willie Perry Jr – revealed he had been diagnosed with kidney and liver cancer in 2016.

John Gosling

John Gosling, the keyboard player for The Kinks, died at the age of 75 on August 4.

Antwun Echols, former boxing middleweight, died aged 52 on July 2.

Echols, also known as “Kid Dynamite”, fought for a world title in 1999 and 2000 but lost to Bernard Hopkins both times.

Actor Robert De Niro‘s grandson, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, died aged 19 on July 2.

Netflix star and daughter of late billionaire Edward Shay, Anna Shay, died on June 1 at the age of 62.

The star, who was best known for featuring in Bling Empire, passed away as the result of a stroke.

Everwood and Hair star Treat Williams died at age 71 on June 12, after he was involved in a motorcycle accident in Vermont.

British author Martin Amis, 73, died on May 19 after battling oesophageal cancer.

Andrew Michael Rourke was best known as the bassist for the English rock band, the Smiths.

Born in Manchester on January 17, 1964, Andy joined the band due to his friendship with Johnny Marr, who formed The Smiths with lead singer Morrissey in 1982.

Rourke died on May 19 at the age of 59, following a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

Brian Booth

Former Australia Test captain Brian Booth died May 19 at the age of 89.

He played 29 Tests in his career between 1961 and 1966.

Arturo Gravalos

Spanish cyclist Arturo Gravalos died on May 19 from a brain tumour at the age of 25.

Gravalos finished second in Spain‘s U23 national road race in 2019.

Len Goodman

Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman died aged 78 after a battle with bone cancer.

The ex-dancer had been in a hospice in Kent before he tragically passed away on April 22.

Kate Saunders

Only Fools and Horses star Kate Saunders died aged 62 on April 21.

The actress-turned-novelist played policewoman Sandra in the hit sitcom.

Peter Martin

Royle Family star Peter Martin died aged 82 on April 19.

The beloved actor played the Royles’ neighbour Joe Carroll for 14 years before joining Emmerdale between 2001 and 2007.

Moonbin

K-Pop star MoonBin, part of the South Korean boy band Astro, died on April 19, at the age of 25.

The Astro singer was found dead in his apartment in the Gangnam-gu district of Seoul by his manager, according to South Korean media outlets.

The Script‘s Mark Sheehan, 46, died in hospital on April 13.

Mark was co-founder of The Script back in 2001, but worked in music for years before with pal Danny O’Donoghue.

The Scot played 260 times for the Yorkshire side between 1960 and 1967.

Lance Reddick

The Wire actor Lance Reddick died at age of 60 on March 17, at his home in Los Angeles.

A cause of death has not been determined, however, sources told TMZ Lance’s passing appeared natural.

Paul Grant

Paul Grant, 56, who starred alongside Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill in sci-fi classic Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, was found by police collapsed outside King’s Cross station.

The 4ft 4in star, who also appeared in Harry Potter, was rushed to hospital but doctors declared him brain dead.

On February 3 fashion legend Paco Rabanne died at the age of 88.

The Spanish designer – best known for his metallic ensembles and perfumes – passed away in Portsall, France.

Charlie Thomas

Singer Charlie Thomas died at the age of 85 on January 31, after battling liver cancer.

He was part of The Drifters for over 60 years and the lead singer on tunes such as the hit Sweets For My Sweet.

Lisa Loring

The original Wednesday Addams actress Lisa Loring died on January 28, aged 64, after she suffered a “massive stroke.”

The tragic news of her death was shared by her good friend Laure Jacobson who said the actress was taken off life support after she “suffered a massive stroke brought on by smoking and high blood pressure”.

Cindy Williams

Actress Cindy Williams, 75, who played Shirley on Laverne & Shirley, passed away after a brief illness on January 25.

Founding guitarist of The Yardbirds Anthony “Top” Topham died on January 23,at the age of 75 after a battle with dementia.

Topham helped form the The Yardbirds in May 1963, but left before their commercial breakthrough and was succeeded as lead guitarist by Eric Clapton, then Jeff Beck and finally Jimmy Page.

Lloyd Morrisett

The co-creator of famed children’s television show Sesame Street Lloyd Morrisett died aged 93 on January 23.

He was a co-founder of the Children’s Television Workshop – later rebranded as Sesame Workshop – which confirmed the news of his passing in a tweet.

Patrizio Billio

Former Crystal Palace and AC Milan player Patrizio Billio passed away aged 48 on January 23.

The midfielder arrived at Selhurst Park in the late 1990s and played for Scottish clubs Dundee and Aberdeen in the early 2000s.

He retired in 2010 and returned to AC Milan to coach their academy side in Kuwait.

The movie star was one of the from the so-called Golden Age of Hollywood in the 1950s and 1960s, enjoyed a glowing film career before becoming a distinguished photographer and even entering politics.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Tom Sizemore’s early breakout performance was in the war film, Born On The Fourth of July.

But it was his role in Stephen Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan (1998) that cemented Sizemore as a Hollywood acting elite.

Sadly, he passed on March 3, after suffering a brain aneurysm which later caused a stroke.

Gianluca Vialli

Chelsea legend Gianluca Vialli died on January 6, at the age of 58 following a battle with cancer.

Vialli, who enjoyed a glittering career with Sampdoria, Juventus and Chelsea and earned 59 caps for Italy, was diagnosed in 2017.

The Italian was given the all-clear in 2020 but sadly his pancreatic cancer returned a year later in 2021.

West Ham co-chairman David Gold died aged 86 on January 4.

David passed away following a short illness with his fiancée Lesley and daughters Jacqueline and Vanessa by his side.

David – worth over £500million – was raised on Green Street in East London, just yards from the Boleyn Ground and was a lifelong Hammers fan.

Former Formula 3 driver and Le Mans runner-up Michel Ferte died on January 4.

The Frenchman famously won the F3’s Monaco Grand Prix in 1983 following his brother, Alain’s, back-to-back victories in 1981 and 1982.
